Joseph Smith Chief Executive
Joseph is currently Executive Producer for Old Vic Productions; Current/Most Recent: Billy Elliot the Musical worldwide, Sweeney Todd, Jerusalem, Clybourne Park, The Prisoner of Second Avenue and an on-going collaboration with the Old Vic Theatre Company most recently co-producing Noises Off (West End and The Old Vic). As producer, with Michael McCabe for McCabe/Smith Partnership: West End: Spring Awakening (4 Olivier Awards including Best Musical), Million Dollar Quartet. Broadway: How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, Lysistrata Jones. McCabe/Smith have a number of other play and musical projects in development for the UK. Previous to this he worked in New York for 4 years as the Associate Producer for RJK Productions where he represented the company on the Broadway productions of Gypsy, Life x3, Retreat from Moscow as well as producing a festival of Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads Off Broadway at the Minetta Lane Theatre. Prior to this he worked at the National Theatre for 10 years on a range of projects culminating in producing the Transformation Season for Trevor Nunn in 2002.
The season presented 13 world premiere productions including the Olivier Award winning Play Without Words by Matthew Bourne. Most recently he operated as the commercial consultant for the Royal Court Theatre on the successful productions of Enron, Jerusalem and Clybourne Park. Most recently produced the Off-West End musical Departure Lounge at the Waterloo East Theatre. In New York he produced Gutenberg the Musical which started at NYMTF before transferring to 59E59 Theatres and then the Actors Playhouse Off Broadway.
