Stage One Alumni in Edinburgh!

It’s that time of year again…

Some of the most exciting work of the year is produced on the fringe and with hundreds of shows on offer it can get a little overwhelming…

We wanted to highlight a few productions some of our alumni producers are bringing to the festival to hopefully narrow down your options!

Alfie lives with his little brother, Hugo, Mum and George. Alfie is not like the other kids, but that’s only a problem for other people: his irritated parents, the bullying classmates and the exasperated teachers. Alfie doesn’t care as long as he can play his drums. He turns his everyday routine into a life bursting with wonder and music. The funny and moving story of an extraordinary mind gone rogue. The Molière Award nominated smash-hit show premieres in the UK. ***** (Le Parisien).

The hilarious misadventures of three eccentric and lovable anti-heroes crammed in their wacky rooftop bedsits. Paper-thin walls barely separate three neighbours who strike up unlikely and moving friendships, in this physical comedy extravaganza. Fresh from selling out tours across Europe and Canada, FISHBOWL makes its UK debut. The show pack a punch with its technical genius, incredibly realistic set, and physical tricks and surprises that will shock and delight audiences of all ages! Think Charlie Chaplin meets Mr Bean, in Friends. Winner of the Molière Award 2017 for Best Comedy Play.

A new dark comedy about foot-and-mouth disease by Fringe First award winner Emily Jenkins, produced by Emma Blackman Productions.
It’s the late 90s: Take That, Tamagotchis and Pog swaps. When Bobby and Amy meet, hundreds of cows dot across the fields and the sun always shines.
But when the cows begin to burn, Bobby and Amy’s sleepy Cotswold town faces a catastrophe that will change their home forever.

96% of all male rape cases go unreported. Masking his trauma, Jack steps into the absurd world of modern masculinity and reinvents himself as a “real man”. This is his explosive story. How far will Jack go to fit in, whilst hoping his past never catches up with him? Written by and starring Alex Gwyther (Most Promising New Playwright shortlist at Off West End Awards), Ripped exposes this national crisis and the pressures put on young men to live up to outdated ideals. Directed by Max Lindsay.

A hilarious show for children and families aged 2+. When the full moon shines bright there’s magic in the air, and all the animals come out to play. Stay up late with flying cows, jazzy cats, laughing dogs, runaway crockery, farting sandwiches and dancing sausages as we jump and jive to the music in a brilliant new take on the classic nursery rhyme. Ever wondered how a cow jumped over the moon? Or why the dish ran away with the spoon? With original music, brilliant puppetry and lots of laughter, this new show is a wild and musical celebration of nonsense.   http://www.goblintheatre.co.uk

“It ain’t a fossil. It’s fossilised dung. But if he wants to pop it in a cabinet I don’t want to spoil his day.”

In 1811 the daughter of a Lyme Regis carpenter discovered the world’s first Ichthyosaur skeleton.
She was twelve. Before she was thirty, Mary Anning made discoveries that transformed our understanding of the universe. Then she was written out of history. Nearly.

Following the success of Heart of Darkness (★★★★ “Riveting… a voyage not to be missed” Sunday Times) and The Overcoat (★★★★ “A masterclass in theatrical storytelling.” Whatsonstage.com), Scandal and Gallows Theatre return to Omnibus, bringing their trademark blend of storytelling and physical theatre to Helen Eastman’s new play; a story of genius, gender and dinosaurs…

Greeny and Stevo grew up punks – squats, dumpster-diving and PVA-glue-spiked hair. But they’ve changed. No, f*ck that, the world’s changed. One’s a soyboy, one’s a fascist, and, in a world of trigger warnings and snowflakes, conservatism is the new punk rock.

A story of social justice warriors and the far-right. With a jazz-punk score and a friendship ending in a Lidl carpark with a punch-up and accusations of Nazism. Are they stupid? Dickheads? Or just on different sides of an impassable ideological divide.

From the team behind acclaimed Bismillah! An ISIS Tragicomedy.

A STORY OF RADICALISATION, DISENFRANCHISEMENT AND THE ROCK BAND QUEEN.

Dean joined the Army, ‘Danny’ joined ISIS. One’s from London; the other, Leeds. Bismillah! is their hour together in an Iraqi cell.

“A Black comedy of the highest order” (***** – ReviewsHub) discussing Islamophobia, Wetherspoons and the increasing price of a standard meal deal. Which circles an awful truth – they just want to go home.

Fresh from a National Tour, Pleasance run and sell-out 2018 VAULT Festival run, the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award-listed show returns, with its hilarious and compassionate look at modern Britain.
