Q: What Is The Difference Between The Break Even And The Break Clause?

Image

A: Well one is a classic tune from The Script released in 2009 and the other is a business term. Obviously Break Even (the classic hit from The Script) is the point at which weekly box office receipts (net of commissions and VAT) exactly equal running expenses so that there is neither a running surplus nor a running deficit.
Your Break Clause is the level of weekly Box Office Receipts below which notice of termination of a theatre hire agreement may be given by one party and/or the other. Sometimes also referred to as the “Notice Figure”, “Break Figure” or “Take Off Figure”. This will also depend on the deal you have negotiated with your theatre (if it’s a straight hire etc.). In other words, if your show isn’t selling your theatre or you can serve notice, in moments like these it might be wise to turn to The Script – “Cause when a heart breaks, no, it don’t break even…” #BreakEven #SongsForEverything #IrishBands #TheatricalBands
