First Small Scale Investment: World’s End
Nisha Oza, in association with the King’s Head Theatre, presents the world premiere of World’s End by exciting new talent, James Corley.
World’s End is a love story that looks at how trauma changes us. The play explores, among other things, the Kosovo War, single parenthood and sexuality – all through the lens of the Nintendo 64 games console.
The play, directed by Harry Mackrill, premiered at Off-West End King’s Head Theatre on the 27th August and runs until 21st September 2019.
World’s End will close the theatre’s hugely popular annual Queer Season, which was established in 2015. The season is a celebration of the most innovative LGBTQI+ theatre being created in Britain.
Stage One are thrilled that Nisha has received the first ever Small Scale Investment since the launch of the scheme in June 2019. We wish Nisha and the production all the best and look forward to helping more producers with the scheme in the future.
For more information on the Small Scale Investment scheme and how to apply please visit the investment page of our website. Stage One can offer to invest in smaller scale productions (not West End Venues) that fit specific guidelines. The aim is to be able to support a wider range of productions and to help producers create more commercially viable work and increase their pool of investors.
Nisha Oza has previously worked for Tamasha Theatre Company,The National Theatre and Kiln Theatre. As Producer (film), credits include The Yellow Room and The Scene. Nisha is currently working at National Theatre Productions, as part of the Stage One London Placement scheme and is also one of 10 producers who joined the Bridge The Gap scheme in it’s pilot year.
World’s End is Nisha’s first theatre production as sole producer and we’re pleased to have been able to support her with multiple schemes this year.
World’s End is the first show that I’ve produced independently – It’s been a real test of my skills as a producer, and luckily I’ve come out the other end, feeling like this is what I’m supposed to be doing. There’s been definite challenges, however I’ve felt really supported from Stage One, and my mentors. More than anything working with Harry Mackrill (Director), James Corley (Writer) and our entire creative team and cast has been the most beautiful, fulfilling experience – I know I won’t get so lucky on every production I work on; but what a wonderful way to start the journey.
