Sarah trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama and worked for the Finborough Theatre, Complicite and Bill Kenwright prior to setting up Snapdragon Productions. Snapdragon Productions was founded in 2009 by Producer Sarah Loader and Director Eleanor Rhode, to bring neglected and unknown works to new audiences. In 2012 Snapdragon were awarded a bursary to support their productions of The Dead Wait, A Life and supported the development of A Bill of Divorcement. Stage One is delighted to announce we have awarded a Start-Up Fund Investment of £22,500 to Sarah Loader for the upcoming tour of Toast by Richard Bean.

At the moment I am….
…just about to be reunited with the cast of Toast who begin rehearsals today! I’m also working on the development of two new plays: a revival of Gorky’s hilariously vicious drama Vassa, in a new adaptation by Luke Barnes; and an epic retelling of Boudica vs The Romans by Tristan Bernays.

What does Stage One mean to me?
Stage One is a crucial network of experts, friends and knowledge. Without it I’d feel much less connected to our ever-changing industry.

Last show you saw and loved?
I loved The Father. Not only did it connect with me personally but but it has become a huge commercial success, which should give producers of plays great confidence. It has proved that there is still a big audience for gripping new work, beautifully told.

What do you think is the best thing about the theatre industry?
The best theatre makers have an irrepressible need to tell stories. And often they manage to pull off stunning work in ridiculous conditions. It’s their collective drive and determination that moves the industry forward.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
“Don’t sweat the small stuff” – Julius Green (Legend).
