Stage One launched the regional producer placement scheme in 2013 in order to increase communication and shared knowledge across the subsidised and commercial sectors. The placement not only benefits the producer but also the host theatre/organisation as they have further opportunity to produce in-house.

We are pleased to be hosting our 2025-26 National Placements with the following hosts!

  • Bristol Old Vic
  • Birmingham Hippodrome
  • Northern Stage
  • Leicester Curve

How does it work?

Each year, Stage One partners with 4 subsidised houses across the UK to recruit, train and support 4 talented producers through a year-long fully funded placement scheme. Emerging producers will have the opportunity to apply for a placement at one or all venues and following successful shortlist from Stage One will have the opportunity to interview with the theatre’s producing team. The producer will have the opportunity to assist in producing high quality, potentially commercial work learn of the challenges and opportunity of working in a theatre venue.

The successful candidates will be employed by the partner organisation on a 12 month fixed-term contract, and work within the team. Additionally, this person will receive:

  • One to one mentoring from an experienced producer/professional (likely their line manager),

  • Regular check-ins with the Stage One network

  • A free place on the Stage One Workshop

"Having a trainee producer has been brilliant for Bristol Old Vic. Our Producer Placement, Charlotte, was chosen from a huge number of fantastic applicants and came into the role ready to hit the ground running.

She's been a massive support to the producing team and we're delighted to support the next generation of talented producers as they develop their skills.”
